It is human behavior to want to fit in and connect. Online tools like Facebook, Twitter and Ning allow people to do this. I often hear people joke about their parents being on Facebook and Twitter. I admit I have done this myself. However, it should be just the opposite – we should encourage them to join. These tools are there to help us do the things that we want to do in real life such as: connect with people who have similar interest, keep in touch with friends and family, learn about new ideas and create change in the community. These online community tools make these natural human behaviors easier.
Oh, and just keep in mind, when your parents join Facebook – if you don’t want your mom to see anything you have online – you should not have it up there in the first place!
My grandmother is on Facebook too... :)
