Seth Godin had a vision.
A vision of a new way of learning about being an entrepreneur, a freelancer, a marketer. A businessperson. A vision that didn't involve going to business school and earning an MBA. A way that would help leaders change the world.
He opened up his office to nine people to participate in an alternative MBA program to learn everything they could from him about business. And thus SAMBA was born.
2009 participants (and this blog's authors)
Emily Kate Boyd

i want to say how much i enjoy the content from this team.
my venture, http://www.sandboxnetwork.org is creating an NCAA-like model of scholarship for students, faculty and higher ed, with outreach through TEDx community work to k-12.
would very much like to get feedback on the value proposition of a social innovation like this. would cross market to educause and campus compact for next phase development.
best,

This kind of undertaking is very interesting and a must grab opportunity for anyone who wishes to earn more wisdom and learn how to make use of others' idea in making you better. It's not that we want to grab others work of thought, but it will be used to educate us further by learning things that are real and workable. I just hope that there will be a program of this same nature which will link people from different parts of the world thru internet interaction. not all of us can be in one place all together and do this. Its very expensive and not workable for interested parties like me to join since i have my own limits in term of financial and time availability. But i guess everyone can have the chance to be a part of this by other means. I know Seth is very brilliant to think of another way to hold something like this again involving people around the world thru the use of the internet, VOIP, and other technology available to bind them all together even if they are not physically present in the location. I am from the Philippines and i have this fervent desire to be a part of this activity.

Very excited to see the finished product of this program in action. 3 months ago, I'm embarrased to say, I didn't know who Seth Godin was. Now I look through my inbox for updates from Seth's Blog and SAMBA before I open anything else. Most of what I have read was immediately helpful
Great job. Keep it coming.

999+1: A company that scrubs your online record. Certainly a must have for politicians (candidates already do this, but only the big name candidates do it well). And politicians are not alone, sterilizing one's searchable self has become a must for seniors in college who are applying for their first job.
I've often heard people hypothesize that politics will completely change when the internet generation starts running for office. We will no longer be able to idealize our political leaders (not that all of us do that now).
I would posit that this day will not come easily. Cleaning people's searchable past could easily become a large, and perhaps illicit industry.

I have no idea who came up with the idea of SAMBA as a shortened form of Six Month MBA... I spent about half a day today trying to find your blog, searching for SMMBA...
Nice to have found it though, it's pretty good and you have nice ideas :)

Todays post 19th February 2009, About the name tags.
Please do not do this. I used to work as a hotel bartender with a name tag. I had to take it off after a week, despite the frequent comments from HR. It felt almost threatening when someone I didn't know was calling me by my name.
Of course I'm Irish so maybe this is a cultural thing - I'll leave it go as long as the person who made the post has at one time in their life worked in the service industry wearing a name-tag.

I was surprised by today's post (2-14-09). It wasn't normal like many of the blogs I read via email. I say that in a kind way. I very much enjoyed it. I just signed up a few days ago and already I'm a fan. Great job. Keep it up. I like these little jolts to somewhere else. It's fun and interesting.

OJT used to mean "one the job training"...now it's "on the job thinking".
wonderful apprentice-based guild concept that time nor tech has ever replaced. my interns end up applying for a job in my company after they graduate, IF they are keen on the marketing focus of the ebiz arena. it's hard when you can only pick a few.
All the best for you, the select few... enjoy the privilege, and share the ideavirus!

Hey Guys,
I am from the UK and pride myself on thinking outside of the box - lots of your work is very North American focused. I would be delighted if you could consider me to join your program and become a participant. I guarantee that I will throw up some challenges and thought provoking stuff that is from outside of Uncle Sam's world.

Seth Godin doesn't seem to respect many rules about what you can and cannot do. It will be great to see which ones you guys bend and break during the program.
All power to you!

Hey Samba team
Just wanted to salute you all for jumping into the program. I'm sure it took some courage to do so, and I'm equally sure it must be brilliant.
